Marty Newell-Large - President

I am looking forward to my second term as president of the UVBDC, and my 5th year at UVic. I started UVic as a Japanese Language and Literature major now all I do is look at rocks (SEOS) and dance (UVBDC). I've been dancing most of my life starting with ballet at age 4, and switching to ballroom once I got to university and realized how COOL it was. My goal for the club is to continue it's long tradition of providing an environment in which dancers of all skill levels - from never dance before to world champion - can have fun and learn comfortably.

If you're interested in meeting new people, making new friends, and learning some really sweet moves then the UVic Ballroom Dance Club is right for you!

Joel White - Vice President

Dear World: Joel White has been dancing in his living room for most of his life, and has been dancing in public places for several years - he started with musical theatre (and reserves the right to sing without provocation), and is now thoroughly enjoying standard ballroom, salsa and most of all westcoast swing. He's been dancing with the UVic Ballroom club for two years, is thrilled to be able to siphon power away from his colleague Marty, and anticipates helping guide the club as a venue for people to learn to dance and meet other dancers, but most of all simply to let them go out and dance.

I was once told that life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain! Ballroom has shown me how true this is! Dancing brings out all your emotions and makes you feel better. It brings you into an eclectic group of individuals that make for a colourful group of friends. As you are absorbed farther into the world of dance you start to understand the different personalities of each type of dance and what wonderful friends they are. Be warned though, that once you find your style of dance it will absorb your free time and you will find yourself dancing in the kitchen, down the street, in class and wherever there is the faintest hint of music. I look forward to seeing you all out on the dance floor, finding the dance that resonates with you!

Hello dancers! I have been dancing causally since my parents suggested I take a teen social dance class up in Comox in the summer of 2003. I have been involved in the club for 4/5 years now and finally got drafted onto the executive. I look forward to seeing you all out on the dance floor.
