Ian Stewart Complex Dance Studio (map)

Intermediate Salsa On 2

Instructor: Christina Morrison
Time: Saturday 04:00 PM - 05:00 PM

NY style salsa (mambo) is danced to the rhythm of the congas and the techniques used allows for quick turns and direction changes, complex partner patterns and more body movement while dancing on a crowded dance floor. This class will continue to introduce you to the essentials by starting with the basic steps and moving though to advanced partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques to get you ready to move to the next level. 

 

 

Beginner Salsa On 1

LA style salsa places strong emphasis on sensuouseness, theatricality, aerobics and musicality. We will start with a "shines" portion of the class to practice footwork and technique so that you know what to do when your partner lets go of you on the dance floor. This class will introduce you to the essentials of partnerwork by starting with the basic steps and moving though to intermediate partner combinations.

Mergengue / Bachata - All Levels

In this class you will learn the steps you need to boost your confidence dancing socially and at parties or clubs!  Merengue is very popular throughout the Caribbean and South America, and is one of the standard Latin American dances. It is essentially a "fun" dance that is easy to learn and is perfect for a small, crowded dance floor.  Bachata is a sensual dance that originated in the slums of the Dominican Republic.   Since then it has gained popularity all over the world.   In this class the basic step, turns, dips and sways will be taught. WARNING- This class is going to get sexy!!! No partner required.

Beginner Ballroom

In Standard Ballroom discover the romance of the Waltz, the smoothness of the Foxtrot, the excitement of the Quickstep and the passion of the Tango.

Passionate, Sexy, Fun - just a few of the reasons to learn the basics of Latin Ballroom. A taste of Cha cha, Rumba and Jive (to name a few) will have you moving your body like it was born to slide into the latin rhythms.

Ballroom dancing is still a popular and mesmerizing social activity that is an exhilarating experience for the mind, the body and the soul and does wonders for your love life. Come out and learn the basic elements that will get you started on a life-long journey of romance and magic.

Intermediate Standard Ballroom

Continue to build on the skills learned in the beginner class and add new moves to your repertoire!  In addition you will be introduced to Quickstep and Viennese Waltz.

Intermediate Latin Ballroom

This is a chance to continue to build on the skills learned in the beginner class, add new moves to your repertoire and perfect your technique! 

Intermediate Swing: An Introduction to West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing (WCS) can be danced to almost any music written in 4/4 time at speeds ranging from very slow to very fast. WCS is characerized by it's destinctive elastic look that results from the extention and compression between partners, and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. The dance allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting WCS on a short list of dances that put a premium on improvisation. As such this class will cater to more experienced dancers: the basic steps, posture, and techniques will be taught.

This is an oppertunity to come out and practice your techinique. The members of the excecutive will be on hand to answer questions and help you out. This is also a time to try your hand at social dancing and build your confidence on the dance floor.
